The social media giant, Facebook has agreed to resolve the matter of blasphemous content with Pakistani government and is sending a delegation to discuss the issue; a Ministry of Interior spokesperson confirmed.
Spokesperson said that the delegation of Facebook, in response to Pakistan’s request, has conveyed that it was aware of Pakistan’s reservations and wanted to resolve the issue through mutual consultation and dialogue.
Facebook, recognizing the gravity of the issue and agreeing to resolve it is a welcome move as the Interior Minister of Pakistan, Ch. Nisar threatened to block the social media network in the country if the blasphemous content wasn’t removed.
Earlier, couple of days ago, civil society also filed a petition in Islamabad High Court to temporarily ban the Facebook until the content was removed.
